WELCOME TO MISTERBIANCO
History
The city name derives from Monasterium Album, a monastery located in Campanarazzu contrada, whose monks wore a white tunic. Both the monastery and the ancient village were destroyed by the eruption of Etna in 1669. The rebuilding was carried out in the new site of Milicia contrada as faithful as possible to the previous city structure.
Part of Catania until 1642, Misterbianco gained independence following the purchase by Gian Andrea Massa, from a noble Genoese family, who sold it after a few days to the Trigona family , then barons of San Cono and Dragofosso, who obtained the title of Dukes of Misterbianco in 1685.

“At the bottom, the Sicilian coast fades to the city of Catania; the Strait shines in blue and the mountains of Sicily rise on all sides with unexpected profiles. Above everything is Etna Volcano, the Mountain par excellence, a reminder of the power of fire that, behind the affairs of men, it is the true, immortal soul of the island.”
